VK2735 is classified as a dual GLP-1/GIP agonist, meaning it activates two receptors that play a role in controlling hunger, satiety, and metabolism. This mechanism may help to reduce appetite, promote a sense of fullness, and consequently lead to reduced food intake. The drug appears to enhance the body’s natural signals that suppress appetite and maintain energy balance. However, as the medication is still under investigation, its precise effects and long-term benefits have yet to be conclusively determined.

The known side effects primarily involve gastrointestinal symptoms:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea

These side effects are similar to those associated with other weight-loss medications currently available. They may lessen or resolve with continued use of the medication.

In a phase 2 study involving weekly injections, an average weight loss of up to 14.7% from baseline was observed after 13 weeks.

In a phase 1 study using the tablet form, an average weight loss of up to 12.2% was reported at the highest dosage.
