Viridal

The active substance is alprostadil. Before injection, the powder is dissolved with a sterile sodium chloride solution. 

Side effects do not affect everyone. Seek medical help immediately if you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours or if you have chest pain, severe shortness of breath, sudden weakness or paralysis, or other signs of a heart attack or stroke. 

Other side effects: 

• Very common (more than 1 in 10 people): pain in the penis.  
• Common (up to 1 in 10 people): burning during injection, usually short-lived; pain at the injection site; lumps at the injection site or in the penis with long-term use; erections that happen more often or last longer; bending or curvature of the penis, especially with long-term use.  
• Uncommon (up to 1 in 100 people): bruising or small blood spots at the injection site; redness, itching, swelling, numbness or a warm feeling at the injection site; bleeding at the injection site; headache; nausea; skin rash; changes in heart rhythm or increased heart rate; low blood pressure; problems getting or keeping an erection; inflammation of the foreskin or glans; narrowing of the foreskin.  
• Rare (up to 1 in 1,000 people): a drop in blood pressure with dizziness or fainting; scarring in the penis with long-term use; dizziness or vertigo; hives.  
• Very rare (up to 1 in 10,000 people): thrombocytopenia, a reduced number of platelets.  
• Not known: stroke; reduced blood flow to the heart muscle with chest pain (angina pectoris); heart attack; stomach or intestinal bleeding; swelling of the penis.  

This medicine may not be suitable if you are allergic to alprostadil or any of its ingredients, if a doctor has advised you to avoid sexual activity, if you have a penile abnormality such as severe curvature or inflammation, or if you have sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or multiple myeloma. Extra care is needed if you have a bleeding disorder, use blood thinners or have a higher risk of priapism. Men with an anatomical abnormality of the penis should be especially alert to pain or swelling. It is not intended for women, children or anyone under 18. It has no effect on driving or using machines. Other medicines, including blood thinners or medicines for high blood pressure, may affect its use.
