CagriSema

The effectiveness of this medication is derived from the combination of semaglutide and cagrilintide. Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, is a hormone that assists the body in managing blood sugar levels by increasing insulin production, reducing hunger, and slowing stomach emptying. Cagrilintide is similar to the naturally occurring hormone amylin, which is produced in the beta cells of the pancreas and plays a role in appetite regulation. It slows gastric emptying, resulting in a feeling of fullness and a reduced appetite. 

As with any medication, side effects may occur with the use of CagriSema. In later stages of research, additional or different side effects may be identified. Some mild gastrointestinal side effects reported so far include: 

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea

These side effects are similar to those of weight-loss medications already available on the market. They may lessen or disappear with continued use of the medication. 

The most notable results to date come from phase 3 studies. After 68 weeks, the average weight loss was approximately 20.4% with treatment compared to 3.0% with placebo. 

In another phase 3 study, an average weight loss of 15.7% was observed after 68 weeks compared to 3.1% with placebo. This study also reported improvements in blood sugar levels. 

In yet another phase 3 study, an average weight loss of 14.2% was observed, which was superior to semaglutide 2.4 mg alone in this study. 

Further research is ongoing, including studies on long-term safety and cardiovascular outcomes. Additional research is required to definitively establish safety, efficacy, and dosing. We will keep you informed as new data becomes available.
