Viagra is a medication that contains the active ingredient sildenafil. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping men with erectile dysfunction (ED) achieve and maintain an erection. This medication is suitable for men experiencing ED due to various factors such as neurogenic, vascular, or psychological causes.

Dosage and usage

For most men, the recommended dose of Viagra is 50 mg taken as needed, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. Depending on effectiveness and tolerability, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg. Do not take more than one dose in a 24-hour period. If you experience an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek medical help immediately.

What the Viagra contains

Each Viagra tablet contains sildenafil citrate equivalent to 25 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg of sildenafil. The tablets also contain microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous dibasic calcium phosphate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, lactose, triacetin, and FD & C Blue #2 aluminum lake.

Side effects

Common side effects of Viagra include headache, flushing, indigestion, and nasal congestion. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention may include priapism (prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours), sudden vision loss, or allergic reactions.

Precautions

Do not take Viagra if you are using nitrate medications for chest pain or heart problems. Avoid this medication if you have severe heart or liver problems, have had a recent stroke or heart attack, or if you are allergic to sildenafil. Viagra is not intended for women or individuals under 18 years of age. If you have underlying health conditions, especially related to the heart, or if you are taking medications like alpha-blockers or protease inhibitors, consult your healthcare provider before using Viagra.
