Tresiba is an ultra-long-acting insulin that may help lower blood sugar in people with diabetes mellitus. It is used in adults and in children from 1 year of age. It is intended for people who do not make enough insulin, or do not make any insulin, so the body can struggle to keep blood sugar stable. Its effect can vary from person to person. Some people notice improvement quickly, while for others it may take longer. Use of this medicine can form part of a wider treatment plan alongside a healthy diet and enough physical activity. It is important to check your blood sugar regularly so you can see how well the medicine is working. It is not intended for the treatment of a sudden, severe rise in blood sugar such as diabetic ketoacidosis. This medicine is only available if you can provide a previously issued prescription.

Dosage and usage

This medicine is injected under the skin once a day, preferably at the same time each day. You can inject it into your upper arm, thigh or abdomen. Change injection sites to help prevent skin problems. Always use the dose prescribed by your doctor. If you are not sure how to inject, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Check your blood sugar regularly in line with your doctor's instructions. If you use too much, this can cause low blood sugar. Eat something containing sugar straight away and contact your doctor. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, as long as there are at least 8 hours before your next planned dose. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next injection. Do not stop using this medicine without speaking to your doctor, as your blood sugar may rise quickly.
