This is a long-acting insulin used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is usually prescribed as a once-daily injection to help maintain a steady insulin level throughout the day. This may help reduce blood sugar fluctuations and lower the risk of diabetes-related complications. Its effect and your experience with it can vary from person to person. It is used as part of a wider treatment plan, often together with other medicines or insulins, and always alongside a healthy lifestyle and diet. It is important to know that it is not intended for the treatment of sudden high blood sugar or diabetic ketoacidosis. Results can vary depending on your personal situation. This medicine is only available if you can provide a previously issued prescription.

Dosage and usage

Inject this medicine under the skin once a day at the same time, usually into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Your dose is decided individually by your doctor. Always use a new needle for each injection. Do not mix it with other insulins. Follow the instructions from your doctor or diabetes nurse carefully. If you use too much, your blood sugar may become too low. Take fast-acting carbohydrates, such as glucose tablets, and contact your doctor. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next one. Do not miss a dose without advice. Always speak to your doctor before stopping treatment, as stopping can lead to high blood sugar.
