About Nuvaring

  • Vaginal ring
  • Reliable method of contraception
  • Insert new ring once a month

NuvaRing is a contraceptive vaginal ring that contains two hormones, ethinylestradiol, and etonogestrel. This ring works by releasing a continuous low dose of these hormones into your body to prevent pregnancy. It is suitable for women looking for a convenient and discreet birth control option. NuvaRing is effective for women who do not want to take a daily pill and prefer a monthly contraceptive method.

Dosage and usage

To use NuvaRing, you simply insert it into your vagina and keep it in place for three weeks, then remove it for a week to allow for menstruation. It is important to follow the instructions provided in the leaflet. Remember to wash your hands before and after insertion. If the ring slips out, you can rinse it with cool to lukewarm water and reinsert it. The effects of NuvaRing last for a month. If you experience any unusual symptoms or if the ring is out for more than three hours, use backup contraception. In case of persistent issues, consult your healthcare provider.

What NuvaRing contains

Each NuvaRing contains 11.7 mg etonogestrel and 2.7 mg ethinylestradiol. The ring also includes excipients such as ethylene vinylacetate copolymers, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, and titanium dioxide.

Side effects

Common side effects of NuvaRing may include headache, nausea, and breast tenderness. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, severe headaches, or vision problems. If you experience symptoms of a blood clot, such as sudden shortness of breath or severe leg pain, seek medical help promptly.

Precautions

Do not use NuvaRing if you have a history of blood clots, certain cancers, or liver disease. It is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have heart issues, smoke, or are over 35 years old, consult your doctor before using NuvaRing. Inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking, especially antibiotics or HIV medications, as they may interact with NuvaRing.
