This is a long-acting insulin that may help lower your blood sugar if you have diabetes mellitus. It is generally used by adults, adolescents and children from 1 year of age who need insulin to manage their diabetes. It works gradually and provides a steady release throughout the day and night, which may help reduce large swings in blood sugar. The effect can vary from person to person and depends on your situation, lifestyle and any other medicines you use. It is intended for daily use and is usually given as an injection under the skin. For the best result, follow the instructions from your doctor or diabetes nurse carefully. This medicine is only available if you can provide a previously issued prescription.

Dosage and usage

Inject under the skin of your abdomen, thigh, upper arm or hip. Use it once or twice a day, depending on your doctor’s advice, and try to give it at about the same time each day for a stable effect. Change the injection site each time to help prevent skin problems. Always use a new needle and follow the instructions from your doctor or diabetes nurse. If you inject too much, your blood sugar may become too low. Eat something containing sugar straight away and contact your doctor if you develop symptoms such as sweating, trembling or confusion. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for the next one. Do not stop using this medicine without medical advice, as your blood sugar may then rise too high.
