This medicine can be used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may also help reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease in people with diabetes who already have an increased risk of these conditions. It contains empagliflozin, which helps lower the amount of sugar in your blood by removing excess sugar through your urine. Results can vary from person to person, depending on your health and other factors. It is usually prescribed as part of a broader treatment plan that also includes a healthy diet and regular exercise.

It works by blocking a specific protein in the kidneys. This allows excess sugar to leave the body in the urine, which can help lower blood sugar levels. It may also have a positive effect on body weight and blood pressure.

Dosage and usage

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor has prescribed. The usual dose is one tablet a day, preferably at the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not break or chew it.

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

If you take too much, contact a doctor or pharmacist straight away. Do not stop taking it without speaking to your doctor, as this may affect control of your blood sugar levels.
