Eucreas is a medication that combines two active ingredients, vildagliptin and metformin. Vildagliptin helps lower blood sugar levels by increasing the release of insulin after meals and reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Metformin works by decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb. Eucreas is suitable for individuals with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved adequate blood sugar control with metformin alone or who are already taking vildagliptin and metformin separately.
About Eucreas
Dosage and usage
You should take Eucreas exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The usual starting dose is one tablet of Eucreas 50 mg/850 mg or 50 mg/1000 mg twice daily with meals. Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your blood sugar levels. Do not exceed the maximum recommended daily dose of 100 mg vildagliptin and 2000 mg metformin. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose. If you take too much Eucreas, contact your doctor or seek medical help immediately.
What Eucreas contains
Each Eucreas tablet contains 50 mg of vildagliptin and either 850 mg or 1000 mg of metformin. The excipients include povidone, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, and titanium dioxide (E171).
Side effects
Common side effects of Eucreas may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and headache. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include signs of pancreatitis (severe stomach pain), lactic acidosis (muscle pain or weakness, difficulty breathing), and allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).
Precautions
Do not take Eucreas if you have kidney problems, a history of pancreatitis, or type 1 diabetes. Inform your doctor if you have heart failure, liver disease, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Eucreas may interact with certain medications such as ACE inhibitors or diuretics, so consult your healthcare provider before starting Eucreas.
