About Colchicine

Colchicine is a medication that contains the active ingredient colchicine. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as gout and familial Mediterranean fever. Colchicine works by decreasing the inflammation caused by uric acid crystals in the joints, which helps reduce pain and swelling. This medication is suitable for individuals with gout or familial Mediterranean fever who need relief from symptoms like joint pain and inflammation.

For gout treatment, the usual starting dose is 1.2 mg followed by 0.6 mg every hour (up to 1.8 mg total) until the pain is relieved or side effects become limiting. Do not exceed 1.8 mg in one hour or 4.8 mg in one day. For familial Mediterranean fever, the typical dose is lower and is based on your weight. The effects of colchicine can last for several hours.
