Clopidogrel

About Clopidogrel

  • Clopidogrel lowers the risk of blood clots.
  • Take 75 mg daily at a set time.
  • Common side effects include bleeding and diarrhoea.
  • Do not use if you have active bleeding or liver problems.
  • Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant, due to have surgery, or taking other medicines.

Clopidogrel is a medicine that can help reduce the risk of developing blood clots. It is often prescribed to people who have previously had a heart attack, stroke, or issues with their blood vessels, or who are at increased risk of these conditions. Clopidogrel works by stopping platelets from sticking together. This makes it less likely for a clot to form in your blood vessels that could cause a heart attack or stroke. This can be especially helpful if you have had heart or blood vessel problems before, or if you are at higher risk. The medicine may help prevent serious complications.

Dosage and usage
  • Take Clopidogrel every day at the same time, with or without food.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with some water.
  • The usual dose is 75 mg per day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
  • If you have difficulty swallowing, you may crush the tablet and mix it with water.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine unless your doctor advises you to.
