Celebrex

About Celebrex

  • NSAID used to relieve pain and inflammation
  • Contains celecoxib, a COX-2 inhibitor
  • Dose depends on the condition treated
  • Not suitable in pregnancy or with stomach ulcer
  • May cause headache or abdominal pain

Celebrex is a medicine belonging to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew’s disease). It may also be prescribed for acute pain and period pain.

The active substance, celecoxib, works by blocking an enzyme involved in inflammation. By reducing this process, pain and swelling may decrease. Compared with some other NSAIDs, it has less effect on the stomach lining, which may lower the risk of stomach discomfort.

As with all medicines, the effect can vary from person to person. Your doctor will decide whether this treatment is appropriate for you based on your symptoms and medical history.
